"I accepted a recommendation from my doctor to see Tanya for physical and mental health issues. Having a small appreciation of yoga as a therapeutic activity I contacted Tanya and immediately her professionalism impressed me. Her approach to developing a structure of yoga practice for salient issues, and issues that I didn’t know I had, has really paid dividends for me. I am feeling much less physically constrained and, importantly, more mentally calm and spiritually enthusiastic. Stretches, mindfulness and breath work have all combined to make me feel less my age and more complete. I’ve even discovered I can move bits of my body that I thought were placed there for show! Tanya is also fantastic at changing the structure of a session to accommodate intrusive problems that arise between sessions. It is with wholehearted pleasure that I furnish a testimonial for Tanya. After a series of challenging health incidents including multiple brain tumours, Stage 4 cancer and a brain haemorrhage that has left me with acquired brain injury, I found myself in need of a compassionate and highly skilled yoga therapist who could work with my complex health issues to improve my coordination, pain, flexibility, strength and balance. From the very outset Tanya took the time to develop a professional relationship with me, understand my situation and ascertain my goals. Through ongoing compassionate, caring and thoughtful assessment and discussion, Tanya has continued to monitor my progress, addressing new health issues as they have arisen. Tanya is highly motivated to meet my needs and has also skilfully incorporated recommendations from my multidisciplinary health team. Drawing on her deep understanding of anatomy, experience in radiology and interest in current brain research and its interplay with yoga therapy, Tanya has assisted me to clarify medical terminology, and offered suggestions on sources of relevant information that I may be interested in. Tanya takes the time to ensure that I am executing each yoga movement correctly and consistently makes adjustments to incorporate my daily abilities. Over the past three years, I have witnessed Tanya engage in yoga therapy with Lyn to enhance Lyn’s core strength, movement skills, kinaesthetic awareness and balance. This work with Lyn has had a significant positive impact by helping Lyn to engage in daily tasks safely and more competently. Tanya has crafted an individualised yoga therapy program that has assisted Lyn with her health-related neuropathy pain management using mindfulness and meditation exercises. Tanya is highly accommodating of Lyn’s changing needs and has also drawn on her knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology to help Lyn unpack various medical reports. Recently Tanya has developed specific exercises to help Lyn with her rehabilitation from a fall that resulted in a hip dislocation.

I have been having weekly, one on one yoga therapy sessions with Tanya for several years now. She designs and adapts her practice each session to my condition on the day. I have been practising Yoga Therapy with Tanya for close on 2 years. I find it is of great benefit with my overall health, but especially with my heart conditions and arthritis. "My name is Melissa and I'm turning 40 this year. Definitely a time to reflect back, I try to not have any regrets or dwell on any of my choices in life, however; I have to say this, the only regret I can honestly admit to is not having started Yoga sooner! Yoga came into my life when Tanya did. Tanya is my yoga instructor, the only one I have ever seen actually. The reason for that is simple; she brings so much more to my life than just a bunch of poses. She is my mind and body saviour, my councillor, my therapist, the calm voice in my head, but most importantly my friend. I had no idea of the impact that Tanya and yoga would have on my life. Like a lot of people, I am a busy working mother and wife, along with the usual day to day struggles in my world I also had to contend with depression, anxiety and the pressure of trying to cope "normally" as everyone else seemed too. The problem was I had no idea how to, I had tried reading, listening to music, meditation, quiet time.... but I tried all these things on my own, and failed. I had cancer 8 years ago with a year of chemo to top it off, I thought if I could get through that with 2 small children I should be able to cope with anything.....and I did for a while; then my Dad got sick and my world fell apart again. I knew I had to be the best I could be for everyone, so I made a call, a random call to a local Yoga centre. The lady passed on Tanya's number, I thought maybe a few private lessons will help me to learn and then continue something at home in my own time. That was almost 1 year ago! Tanya definitely guided me through the loss of my Dad and I simply can't imagine how I would have managed without her in my life at that time especially. Tanya couldn't be any more professional. Together with her guidance, support and patience I continue to learn and understand more every week about my body, mind and spirit. No two weeks are the same, she keeps me constantly interested and on my toes that I could never get bored. I feel muscles that I never knew were there and poses that I never thought I would or could do. My family say I come home from seeing Tanya and just keep talking about how awesome I feel afterwards. The effects of cancer, surgery and chemo have definitely left their mark on my body, Tanya certainly respects and understands my limits with her extensive knowledge on anatomy, almost like she just knows my body and fixes it! Tanya is still there for me even when she's physically not! This is because she is the calm voice in my mind when I can't sleep, she is the person telling me to let the thoughts come and then go, but most importantly she is the reassurance that I CAN achieve what I need to in order get to where I want to be in my life for contentment. I could pretty much keep writing, but I still don't know that my words will ever truly depict how Tanya personally has changed my life.
